Ogni cosa a so tempu (Everything in its own time) is a pojagi-style textile work made for Medusa Cucina Siciliana from hand-dyed linen and hemp, used tablecloths and napkins sourced from Italy, weathered wheat sacks from Sicily, burlap bags from Michigan farms, and reclaimed canvas remnants. Each material carries traces of prior use—stains, frays, repairs—embedding the work with the rhythms of labor, nourishment, and gathering. Through patchwork and texture, the piece draws connections between Detroit and Sicily, where textiles and food alike absorb the marks of daily life. Detroiters are known for their hustle—for making and rebuilding—but also for knowing when to slow down, sit, and stay awhile. The title reflects this balance of effort and ease, urgency and pause. A tomato-red sun warms the upper left, while Mount Etna anchors the composition at center. Winding streets, arches, and a spiral maze unfold like a landscape seen from above, echoing the energy of a food market—whether in Palermo or Detroit’s Eastern Market. Layered and generous, the work holds time open, inviting gathering and shared presence.
